Cromwell Cottage
at 6 Cromwell St, Battery Point was built in the 1870s. The Cottage
is at the lower end of Cromwell Street "between the River and
the Church".
By the late 1830s,
St Georges Church had been built on the high ground of Battery Point
and boats and small ships were being built in the slipyards at the
foot of Cromwell Street on the bank of the Derwent River. The imposing
Church tower is floodlit each night and is a beacon which can be
seen for many miles around.
Cromwell
Cottage has been renovated and refurbished to retain the character
of a Victorian home and is rated 4 stars by the AAA. The Cottage
has five bedrooms furnished in period style including
antique iron bedsteads and each bedroom has its
own bathroom.
Cromwell Cottage
was built in the mid-Victorian Gothic Revival style and is a two storey
gentleman's residence. The Cottage maintains the charm and atmosphere
of Victorian times albeit with modern comforts and facilities.
